Sakura Season Begins in Tokyo - Ueno Park

March 24th — We landed in Tokyo with only 5 hours before our next flight.
A little crazy? Maybe. But we couldn’t resist chasing Sakura at Ueno Park.

At the Park Exit of JR Ueno Station, a wide open plaza comes into view.
To the right, families head toward Ueno Zoo.
To the left, a large sign gently reminds visitors to enjoy cherry blossoms responsibly.
Below it, neatly lined recycling bins reflect a quiet sense of order—
a small, beautiful moment of Japan in the midst of springtime joy.

Carried along by the gentle flow of people, I make my way toward the cherry blossom path.
Along Sakura Street, the first petals have just begun to bloom—
their season so brief, it feels like a quiet stroke of luck to witness them.

Lanterns lining the road, adding to the warm, festive spirit of hanami.

Beneath the cherry trees, blue sheets are quietly spread out, saving spots for gatherings yet to begin.
This, too, is one of the small traditions that gently celebrate spring in Japan.

Shrines and temples are scattered throughout the park, drawing lively crowds of visitors from around the world.

Soon, the path opens toward Bentendo Hall at Shinobazu Pond.
Food stalls line the way, and beyond them rise modern high-rises—
a scene where tradition and the present quietly share the same frame, so very Tokyo.

Along the shores of Shinobazu Pond, an antique market unfolds beneath the blue sky.
With timeworn treasures on display, it feels like the perfect place for a quiet little treasure hunt.

Though my stay was brief, I’m grateful to have truly felt the spring of Tokyo.

If you find yourself in the city during this season, be sure to visit Ueno Park.
Stroll beneath the cherry blossoms, wander through temples, and enjoy the food stalls and antique markets—
and let yourself gently experience the beauty of spring in Japan.
