Visiting Golden, Colorado: Goldens in Golden Event and a Perfect Downtown Stroll

Golden is a small town in Colorado.
Once a year, it hosts a heartwarming event called “Goldens in Golden,” where Golden Retrievers gather from all over.

On February 7, 2026, I joined the celebration of International Golden Retriever Day with a friend and her beloved dog.

A Warm Saturday for Goldens in Golden

Expecting crowds, we arrived early and parked on a nearby side street.
As we walked closer, a sea of people came into view — something you don’t often see in Colorado, which made it even more exciting.

Golden Retrievers were everywhere, and just watching them instantly warmed my heart.

Under the arch on Washington Avenue, group photos were taken again and again, with some people arriving early to claim the best spots.
I heard the photos will be posted later on the official website.

Even though they’re all Golden Retrievers, their coat shades, fluffiness, and sizes vary so much.
Still, every single one of them was incredibly gentle and friendly — it’s easy to see why they’re so loved.
There were a few non-Goldens mixed in as well, adding their own charm to the gathering.

I’ve posted a video from the event on Instagram — go check it out!

Downtown Stroll the Next Day

Since it was so crowded during the event, we returned on Sunday to explore at a slower pace.
Washington Avenue, the main street in Golden, is lined with charming local shops.

Golden Goods
A treasure trove of Colorado-inspired gifts, sweets, and local foods.

Golden Sweets
A sweet stop known for handmade chocolates and ice cream.

Golden Game Guild
A cozy, community-driven space where you can enjoy board games in private rooms.

ADORNE
Art-like jewelry and accessories crafted by designers right in the shop.

Just walking around feels like a little treasure hunt.

For lunch, we headed to the longtime local favorite, Bob’s Atomic Burgers.

Orders are written on paper and handed to the counter.
After paying, you receive a numbered ticket with a celebrity’s name on it.
When your name is called — like, “Julia Roberts!” — it’s a fun and unique way to get your food.
It’s simple, yet efficient, and it’s easy to see how a single waitress can manage a busy crowd.

Across the street is the Coors Brewery.
Tickets for the Coors Brewery Tour sell out quickly, so be sure to book in advance!

A Town of Water and History

Clear Creek runs through the heart of downtown, lined with parks and trails where people enjoy leisurely walks.

In the center of town is the prestigious Colorado School of Mines. At the campus’s Mines Museum, you can explore over 2,500 minerals, gems, and artifacts — all for free.

For train enthusiasts, the Colorado Railroad Museum is a must-visit. Riding the trains is a thrilling experience for both kids and adults.

Another Scenic Drive

From the west side of town, the road winds up the mountains toward the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave.

Cyclists glide effortlessly along the curvy roads — a true testament to Colorado’s outdoor spirit.
At the lookout at the top, you get a sweeping view of Golden, and the fresh mountain air makes you want to take a deep breath and just soak it all in.

Big Fun in a Small Town

Even with just a Sunday afternoon, it felt like a little getaway.
Golden isn’t just about the events — every street has its own surprises waiting for you.
Take a stroll, explore, and find your favorite spots!
